The Middle School Math Teacher

As a middle school math teacher, I have noticed in the past ten or so years that there are more and more middle school students telling me that they can't read cursive. Is cursive handwriting a dying art? I know that in this era, keyboarding is an essential skill and must be taught, but to not teach cursive at all, is really, really going too far. In my opinion, both skills are needed. I know personally, that I can take notes much faster with a computer, but I happen to have fast keyboarding skills. Hmmmmmm.......... I wonder if I developed the fast keyboarding from  developing hand and eye coordination from practicing cursive handwriting skills.... or maybe it was also from taking piano lessons as a child.
